Herding breed dogs shouldn’t be associated with barking! That’s all Aussies and I guess you could call what they do herding. Yes my B.Collie is talkative, but she doesn’t bark and she knows when it’s quiet time. And she doesn’t bark to herd!

Haha, I sense some sass against the Aussies!

My dog mostly ignores me in the day, but if my parents go out so we are alone at night he sticks to me like glue. As in, he refuses to go to sleep unless we are curled up together. If I move so I’m not touching him, he wakes up and shifts closer. Like, I love him and I like him paying attention to me, but it feels like he doesn’t trust me home alone? And if I go into the bathroom or something he just lies by the front door whining until I come out. I don’t know how to make him feel better

Sounds more like separation anxiety than mistrust. He just wants your parents to come home!

Sometimes I take my dogs (both dachshunds) to the dog park for a change of environment. My younger dog is a little high-strung and he will bark at any people or dog he sees, and he growls and bares his teeth when a dog tries to socialize with him. I believe this aggression comes from being scared, because that’s how he acts, though he never ever bites other dogs. Is it bad that I keep taking him to the dog park to try to socialize him?

If your pups do not enjoy the company of other dogs, then the dog park isn’t the best place for them. It is important to socialize, but the dog park isn’t the proper place for dogs without social skills. It…

As someone who is financially not in a place to have a dog at the moment, what do you think is a realistic goal to work towards? Like how much money (like per month) should one be able to spend on dog stuff? I realise it must depend on all sorts of factors, but any idea of ballparks? :/ (savings would exist and be used for emergency vet stuff and other sudden larger costs). I’m resisting being irresponsible and getting a dog when I know I can;’t afford one, but it’d be nice to have a goal, y’kno

The cost of food, toys, vet care, and accessories is going to depend on the size of your dog. My dog is a Great Dane mix and his $70 bag of dog food lasts a month. The same bag of…

I have a highly playful small puppy (morkie) a little over a year and we want to get her another doggy friend while my parents work all day and I’m gone in university… Would getting another small dog that’s a senior be okay or could my dog hurt it?

You just need to make sure they meet before committing. If anything, a senior dog would have more issues with a young dog and be the one to potentially harm the pup. But a meet and greet with both dogs…

Hi, I don’t know if you or your followers might be able to point me in the right direction? My lab/border collie mix has been itching a lot lately. She has dry skin, since I’ve gotten her she’s had dandruff. My neighbor recommended vitamins. I’ve treated for fleas, etc. She’s itching so bad she’s irritated her skin on her back legs and it’s very red, maybe bleeding. It’s so bad suddenly and I don’t know how to help her. I feel like the worst dog owner! Any help at all would be just so great!

It sounds like you need to try a different kind of food! Either higher quality, or different ingredients. Your vet should definitely be in the loop to make sure there isn’t any underlying illness.

Hi, I have two (brothers) short tailed pointer breed dogs (small-med size with full white coats and brown/Choco/caramel coloring/spots). One, the runt, seems to have bowl issues, or at least a smaller everything, bladder, stomach, etc., since his brother is about twice as big as him. What do you recommend for when the lil one needs to go out to pee at night? They both bark if they need out, but the lil one not as loudly as his bigger bro, so in the morning we sometimes have messes to clean up?

Withholding food and water close to bed time may help, or crating in your bedroom so you can hear if they need to potty. Go for a walk before bed to make sure they have ample opportunity to potty, as…

Do feists have naturally "docked" tails? I got my dog from a shelter and he has a tail about half the length of a normal dogs tail. I’ve always wandered if it was docked when he was a puppy or if he was born that way!

Feists can be born with either full tails or bob tails. Australian Shepherds, Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs, Brittany Spaniels, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Boston Terriers, English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Old English Sheepdogs, and others can as well! Therefore, not every…

Karma (the cutie with the Tigger hat on) is absolutely beautiful! But I’ve never seen a pitty get that big at 4 months old. Do you know the exact breed? I LOVE giant puppies.

Tbh, I have a tough time recognizing pure bred pit bulls because there are so many mixes out there. Karma looks too wrinkly and jowly to be a pit bull, but I think @pulldogs can provide better input?

What age do you suggest for spay/neuter a dog (ex. Golden Retriever)? I have learned in the past 6-8mos, but I had recently been recommended 18mos+, and that doing it younger increases risk of certain health detriments.

Anonymous said to handsomedogs: What do you think about neutering of dogs? Is neutered dogs really live longer and they become less aggressive? Is there any age limits for dogs? Can dog get any diseases because of neutering?  Altering a…
