I would like to onow if you have any good links to/or advice on how to help a dog get over resource guarding. My son adopted a dog who is very sweet except when he is playing with his toys. He makes a very gnarly growl and attempts to bite. Although, he doesn’t draw blood, it seems to be more of a This is mine kind of thing. However it would be better if he didn’t do this. Thanks for your help, and I love your blog.

Hey anon!

Resource guarding is a pretty serious issue. Even if it’s mild right now, it can become something serious very quickly. We cannot responsibly give you advice over the Internet without seeing your dog in person – you should get a trainer to come in and evaluate your dog.

There are certain blogs that will create training plans in exchange for commissions, so you could check with them. You can also Google resource guarding to find tips to help keep it under control until you can get a professional in.
