My Boy gets left to himself for a good 8-9 hours while I’m at work, and more and more he’s been peeing in the house while I’m gone. My mom is starting to get really upset, even though I clean up thoroughly. I can’t afford to have someone come every day to let him out, and I don’t think it’s fair to get frustrated with him since he can’t get out to pee. I’ve heard small apartment dogs sometimes use indoor pee spots like puppy pads, is it abnormal for a large dog to have one? What can I do? D:

If no one is home to let him out, maybe ask a friend? Or try to take a break from work to rush home real quick? I wouldn’t recommend pee pads because you are encouraging him to eliminate in your…

Hey, we all know the physical problems that can crop up with pugs, but what about behavioral issues? When training a pug, what are some things to focus on?

I believe potty training is the only difficulty you might have. As long as you actually train them early, they can do well with obedience. You just don’t want to treat them like a little baby or they’ll get little…

Dogs can’t have dairy, right? So why is the Puppichino a thing–starbucks gives dogs a cup full of whipped cream?

Dogs are like people when it comes to dairy. Some can digest it, some can’t, and overall it isn’t necessary. It really depends on the lactose content because most dogs are lactose intolerant. Something like whipped cream has 4 times…

My dog is a terrible walker. As soon as we get out of sight of the house, he refuses to go any farther. He wasn’t always like this (he’s almost 10 now!) but it’s gotten worse with age and he’s overweight and needs his exercise. I’ve tried driving him to a neighborhood he’s not familiar with (he won’t leave sight of the car) and having a friend drop us off a few blocks away (he won’t leave the spot where we were dropped off). Any tips? PS. He hates parks.

With the combination of old age and extra weight, he could have arthritis or even hip dysplasia. He could be in pain and not comfortable with walking. I would have him checked by your vet.

Hey just wondering if you have some insight on this situation: My boyfriends dachshund used to be very well potty trained and he could let her roam his place freely. Then suddenly she started going pee everywhere as if she had never been potty trained and he has to keep her confined to the bathroom usually because that’s where her bed and stuff is and she won’t go potty there. Do you know why she’d suddenly forget her potty training?

Sometimes a UTI can be the cause. I would take her to the vet and have her urine checked before looking at behavioral issues.

Can I ask a question? I recently got a 7 month old puppy and she’s perfect in every way. But she won’t sleep in my bed next to me? I thought that was a sign that the doggy loved their owner? She always wants to sleep on the floor in the hallway.

She will sleep wherever she is most comfortable. Don’t take it personally! It has nothing to do with how she feels about you, no worries. My dog sleeps in my bed in the winter because it’s cold, but sprawls out…
