Hey guys!

So I run a little rescue called the Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas. We work as a network of foster homes to save these awesome dogs all over Texas and also in surrounding states like Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.

What you see in that first picture is how many dogs we got in since January. Me holding the 5 puppies was what we also got in in December. This is about how many dogs we get in a whole YEAR with our rescue and we just got in 4 more yesterday. We’ve been steadily adopting them out to wonderful homes, but the toll of a year’s worth of vet bills all at once is starting to take its toll. We can’t help these dogs without our wonderful volunteers, foster homes, and donations to help get these dogs up to snuff.

Every dog that goes through SIRTx is fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, spayed/neutered, temperament tested and goes home with a collar, leash, id tag and a lifetime of support from us. We try to get out to community events to spread the word on these dogs and even have the help of great breeders that help us rescue and preserve this amazing breed. They aren’t for everyone, which is why they end up in rescue. They are stubborn, mouthy, loud little assholes, and I think they are hilarious.

We do NOT make back the money we put into the dogs with their adoption fees. We go to regular vets just like normal owners, and sometimes we can get a discount, but we don’t have any super secret low cost clinic or vet on site like an actual shelter. Some of these dogs require hundreds to thousands of dollars to get healthy, even without figuring in gas costs, food costs and general living and being a dog costs. Our average adoption fee is $200-300 and older ones can go for even less, since everyone THINKS they want a puppy and always overlook the seniors (which are my favorites to foster, imo.)

I fucking love these dogs. I’m involved with the national club, network with other Shiba rescues and wonderful show breeders around the country, and even have my own two which I use as good ambassadors. I’m “The Shiba Lady” to people in my training community and local pet store. 😉

ANYWAY we need your help! We have started a campaign at https://www.loveanimals.org/too-many-shibas-atx.html to help us get back on our feet so we can help more of these dogs.

How does your money help? These are the general expenses we incur with most of our intakes:

– $5 gets us an ID tag for a foster in our program
– $10 pays for a microchip
– $12 pays for a rabies vaccine
– $15 pays for a combo shot or heartworm test
– $20 pays for a collar, harness (if needed) and leash that goes home with each dog
– $30 pays for flea and tick or heartworm prevention for six months
– $50-75 pays for a blood test, essential for some dogs before surgery
– $100-150 pays for a teeth cleaning and extractions
– $150-200 pays for a spay or neuter!

Help me continue to save these assholes. If you can’t donate, share!

Ok, I know not many people follow me, but this is huge! We’ve already reached 20% of our goal!! Please continue to help spread the word and reblog!

We just got an update that every donation will be DOUBLED thanks to a generous anonymous donor that will match everything donated in this campaign! Help us help these dogs!
