In response to the person saying the photos of pit bulls you post are not actually of pit bulls: I’m not sure which photos they’re referring to, but the term "pit bull" doesn’t refer to a specific breed. Rather, it’s a term used for a wide range of breeds with similar characteristics (stocky, broad-chested, muscular, square-ish face/skull, etc). For example, both a bull terrier and an American bulldog are pit bulls.

Ehh, while there are plenty of people who agree, I think for the sake of misrepresentation – this shouldn’t be true.

The issue is that “pit bulls” are targeted negatively in many ways. Whether they are instantly pts at shelters, banned, or used for fighting, there really shouldn’t be a blanket term that effects more, and more breeds with this stigma.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is not the same as a Bull Terrier, and an American Staffordshire Terrier is not the same as an American Bulldog. But calling an American Bulldog a pit bull will create more and more people who believe it to be true, then identify any bully looking breed like a cane corso or even a boxer as a pit bull, and ultimately put these dogs at the same risk.

Imagine your boxer getting called a pit bull, like what? And some of these people have authority to take them away! Ah!! Ignorance!!!

As far as the pictures that are posted, sometimes people tag their mixed breed as a pit bull, even though I explicitly ask not to tag mixes.. So when a lab mix pops up tagged pit bull, it’s not good. But, I do not always catch the tags to delete them.

Not that there’s anything wrong with being a pit bull 😉 Pit bulls are wonderful, but they’re just one breed.
