How do you stand on "beginner/intermediate/experienced owner" dog breeds? Could someone who has never owned dogs before still get a breed that is often described as "not for beginners" such as a shiba or akita?

I think it depends on the owner tbh. If you’re realistic and committed to making it work even with a less forgiving dog, then go for it.  -C

I had to rush my puppy to the vet this morning and she was diagnosed with parvo. They said we caught it early and she’s in better shape than they generally see puppies in when they come. I’ve been crying all day, I know her chances are decent with vet care but! I had this breed before and my last baby passed away this time last year from old age and I’m terrified that right when I decided I could handle a new one, I’m gonna lose her too after only a month. I don’t know what to do.

You absolutely did the right thing. She is in the best possible place to recover right now.  I’m so sorry your pup got sick. Hang in there, I hope she gets better soon <3

Today was the hardest day of my life as a pet owner, as we made the decision to put my 16 year old wiemeriener to rest. He could no longer keep his back legs steady, was blind, near deaf, and had mange. I had him for most of my life, and I feel I didn’t appreciate him enough these past couple years. Today I did not tell him I loved him, not because I didn’t want to or I didn’t mean it, but I was overwhelmed with grief. My worst guilt is that he passed not knowing I still loved him. Consolation?
